B. The lecturing rate payable when the academic is coordinating or accepting a major teaching load within the course (as opposed to giving only one or two lectures). The rationale for the higher rate of pay relates to the additional general workload and administrative work in the unit which academics 'pick up' when they are essentially on duty in the break period and when other support is less available due to other staff being on leave.
