SUMMER SESSION ARRANGEMENTS

Summer Session (excludes academic casual employees)

Teaching in summer session may be included in the workload allocation model.

Payment to an academic staff member for summer session teaching will be made if the summer session teaching exceeds the staff member's workload allocation.

Where additional payments are made these payments will be in accordance with the rates below.

Note: Hourly rates on your payslip may vary slightly as the rates below are rounded according to normal rounding rules.

Summer Session Rates

A. The lecturing rate payable when the course is new.

B. The lecturing rate payable when the academic is coordinating or accepting a major teaching load within the course (as opposed to giving only one or two lectures).

The rationale for the higher rate of pay relates to the additional general workload and administrative work in the unit which academics 'pick up' when they are essentially on duty in the break period and when other support is less available due to other staff being on leave.
