The Biosafety Manual was developed to guide those people working with/or exposed to biological hazards. It is crucial that the information and procedures set out in the Biosafety Manual is followed to ensure that legislative requirements are met and that the safety and wellbeing of all staff and students working with or exposed to biological hazards is understood.

The following documents should be referred to when working with potentially infectious agents:

The following spreadsheet should be completed prior to working with microorganisms or diagnostic samples: UOW Biological Hazards Risk Group Register.

The Biosafety Self Assessment Checklist [doc] [pdf] has been designed for Laboratory Supervisors to use as a tool to ensure all the appropriate biosafety system requirements are being implemented for each individual laboratory. It should be completed annually.

A PC2 laboratory requires a list of authorised users to be posted at the entrance to the area using the PC2 Authorised Personnel Sign [doc] [pdf].

If work in a PC2 laboratory is to cease, it is necessary to complete the PC2 Laboratory Decommissioning Form. This will ensure that all areas of the laboratory that have potentially been contaminated with biological agents will have undergone the correct decontamination procedures.

Information and procedures regarding the use of genetically modified organisms is overseen by the Gene Technology Review Committee.
