Work Experience

Work experience provides students with the opportunity to gain valuable experience in their chosen industry.

Whilst many programs at the University require students to undertake compulsory placement in order to acquire necessary skills (see “Student Placement” below), some students find it valuable to arrange their own work experience.

University students are eligible to undertake Work Experience with a host institution provided that the following criteria is adhered to:

  • The student is a current and enrolled student at the University
  • The student will not be paid whilst undertaking work experience
  • Approval is obtained from the student’s Faculty/Dept
  • The Faculty/Dept confirms that the Work experience is related to the student’s studies

If the above criteria is met the student is required to complete a Work Experience Application and forward to Financial Services. A letter will then be forwarded to the host institution outlining the cover provided under the University’s Insurance Protections.

Please Note:
Please ensure that the Work Experience Application is adequately completed with all required information as failure to do so may result in delays in processing.

Student Placement
When students are required to undertake work placement in the community as a compulsory component to their studies this is not considered as Work Experience. Students should contact the relevant Faculty Officer for further information as each Faculty have their own processes and procedures for administering placements.
