Student Personal Accident InsuranceIt is important to advise Finance & Insurance Officer, Financial Services on (02) 4221 5236, of any claim notification or of a situation that may give rise to a possible claim as soon as possible. The University currently maintains a Group Personal Accident Insurance Policy. This policy provides cover for Personal Injury to students whilst on Campus and undertaking the following activities;
- University, Course or Sport related activities, including Field Trips; and
- Practical or Community Placement, including Work Experience, provided it is directly related to the students course of study.

- Non-Medicare medical expenses;
- Bed Care allowance (for confinement to bed with the care of a nurse for not less than 48hrs);
- Home Tutorial Benefits;
- Direct travel to and from the abovementioned activities within Australia
- Domestic Help/Child Minding Services (carried out by persons other than relatives or persons permanently residing with you);
- HECS and/or PELS;

Most doctor consultations are claimable on Medicare. Only Non-Medicare related expenses are covered, as the Health Insurance Commission Guidelines state that it is illegal for insurers to pay any Medicare related costs. Back to FAQ List I HAVE PRIVATE HEALTH COVER; CAN I STILL CLAIM EXPENSES ON GROUP PERSONAL ACCIDENT INSURANCE? You must declare on the claim form that you have private health cover. You will need to claim through your private health cover first then claim any remaining amounts under this policy. Back to FAQ List I INJURED MYSELF WHILST PLAYING FOR ONE OF THE UNIVERSITYS CLUBS AND THEY HAVE THEIR OWN INSURANCE. WHO DO I MAKE A CLAIM THROUGH? Students injured from their involvement in playing/training with the UOW clubs do have basic cover under their own policies, and, compensation should be sought from the clubs policy first. Should certain incidents or losses not be covered by club policies, such as loss of wages, then a claim may be made under the UOW Ace policy provided it includes confirmation from the clubs insurer that the claim loss is excluded under the clubs policy. Once limits have been exhausted under the clubs policy, students may then submit a claim under UOWs ACE Policy. Back to FAQ List I NEED TO HAVE ONGOING TREATMENT. HOW LONG CAN I CLAIM FOR?
