Property Protection provides the University with cover for material loss of University owned assets, including buildings, plant, machinery, stock and merchandise and personal property (with restrictions). The policy also provides cover for assets for which the University assumes responsibility.

Protection is subject to certain terms, exclusions, conditions and limitations.

It is important to notify the Insurance Officer (Financial Services) of the following situations to ensure adequate protection can be arranged:

  • Purchase, construction or occupancy of new premises, alteration, vacation, temporary unoccupancy, extension or demolition of existing premises;
  • Increase in values and addition of assets of value for buildings and contents which exceeds $10,000,000.
  • If UOW is to care for or use a piece of equipment/item (art work, faculty equipment etc) and the value is more than $100,000.

How do I make a claim?
It is important that you contact the Insurance Officer (Financial Services) as soon as you are aware of a situation that may give rise to a claim.  You will need to advise of:

  • Description and details of occurrence i.e. fire, burglary, vandalism;
  • Date and time of occurrence;
  • Who has been notified i.e. Police, Security, Buildings & Grounds, OH&S;
  • An approximate total expected damage/replacement cost.
The Insurance Officer (Financial Services) will then advise the insurers and they will determine whether loss adjusters will be appointed.
