What technologies do University learning spaces support?

The University of Wollongong (UOW) learning spaces, where technologies are used to support face-to-face interaction include:

• lecture theatres
• classrooms
• computer laboratories
• study areas.

All lecture theatres are equipped with state of the art presentation equipment connected to the Internet. In Wollongong, Theatre 20.5 is a videoconference theatre. There are videoconference rooms at the Shoalhaven Campus as well as the Moss Vale, Loftus, Bega and Batemans Bay Education Centres. More videoconference and webcasting spaces are being planned.

Many classrooms are equipped with presentation computers; those classrooms that do not supply this equipment can support portable equipment, which is available for borrowing.

Every University location has computer laboratories where you can study and access help. On the Wollongong Campus there is a central computer lab facility, which is open for extended hours (Building 17). On the Dubai Campus there are 5 multi-purpose labs, a lab for student use, labs for the English Language department (CALL labs) and labs that are used for teaching networking.

Every University Library location has computers and study facilities for your use. Many Departments have specialised computer laboratories and postgraduate study spaces as well.

For UOW students studying outside Australia, your local campus or study centre will provide you with access to computing facilities and library services to access eLearning resources.

What equipment is available for borrowing?

At most UOW campuses and centres, you may borrow audiovisual equipment free of charge for use in lectures, tutorials, presentations etc. The equipment inventory includes:

• Data projectors
• Laptop computers
• Voice recorders
• Video recorders
• Digital still cameras

Wollongong Campus

AV equipment is available from the Audio Visual Services Loans Counter on the ground floor of Building 20. You need to book in advance by phoning (02) 4221 3993 or going, in person, to the loans counter. A copy of the Teaching and Learning Equipment Lending Policy is available from the loans counter.

Laptops may be borrowed for use in the Library from the Library Information Desk.

Shoalhaven Campus, Moss Vale, Loftus, Bega and Batemans Bay Education Centres

Dubai Campus

The 17 teaching rooms are equipped with projectors and PC consoles and staff have the ability to connect their laptops in these rooms. AV equipment is available for staff and student use and can be accessed through the Administration Assistant in each of the three colleges.

Sydney Business School, Wollongong University Colleges and Partner Institutions

Check with your lecturer or the Director.

Can the University support me going wireless?

You may prefer to use your own computer at work or at home. If you own a laptop you can connect to the University environment, via the wireless network, at the Wollongong Campus or Sydney Business School.
