On site child care facilities

UniCentre Children Services offer long day, occasional care, out of school hours care and vacation care. KidsUni North and KidsUni South are the two long day care centres provided by UniCentre Children Services and they are located at the main entrance to the University. Both centres are accredited by Federal accreditation at the highest level. More details are available in the following Dependent care facilities and contacts.

Salary packaging of child care costs

Salary packaging of child care costs, provided by UniCentre Children Services, is available to staff. Further information is available from the Personnel Services - Child Care website or through staff in Personnel Services on (02) 4221 3904.

Parents Room

A room has been established on the ground floor of Building 11 in the UniCentre Foyer, around the corner from the University Hall (next to the bottom of the stairs) for the use of parents of infants and young children. The room provides a private space for nursing mothers as well as facilities to heat bottles and a change table. The parents room is fitted with a keypad. The pin code and access to the room is available from the EED Unit (telephone 4221 3917), Ground floor Administration Building, UniCentre Enquiries Counter (outside UniShop - telephone 4221 8008) or Kids Uni.

Employee Assistance Program

The University Counselling Service offer free and confidential counselling to staff and members of their immediate family, who want to talk through and change areas of difficulty, conflict or crisis in their lives.

The counsellors can deal with a wide range of personal difficulties such as:

  1. feeling stressed, anxious or depressed
  2. wanting to become more confident and assertive
  3. family and relationship conflicts
  4. grief and bereavement
  5. alcohol and other drug problems
  6. harassment
  7. emotional stresses associated with work or study

Health and lifestyle support programs and facilities

The campus community enjoys an attractive and relaxing physical environment as well as access to numerous facilities to support a healthy lifestyle. Sports fields, an Olympic swimming pool, gymnasium with a variety of supervised classes, sporting groups and professional health services including rehabilitation clinic, physiotherapy, and massage are available to staff on campus. A number of staff training programs such as Stress Management, Preventing Burnout, Time Management are offered to staff through Professional & Organisational Development Services (PODS). You can view the PODS training calendar by signing into the UOW Intranet.

Children’s Christmas party

A family Christmas party is held annually for family members of university staff. Family and friends are all invited to attend the Christmas party however the activities are aimed at children aged twelve years and younger. Staff are able to nominate and contribute to a present for their children, grandchildren, nieces and nephews to enjoy the activities organised on the day.

Relocation Services

A new appointee to the University and their family may be offered assistance with their relocation to the Illawarra. Services provided include housing arrangements (purchase and rental), household removals, schooling information, local services and introductions to local interest group networks. Housing details and arrangements can be provided prior to arrival. This service can be linked to the recruitment process when approved by the relevant Dean or Director.
