Breastfeeding at work

UOW encourages women to return to the workforce after pregnancy and supports the needs of nursing mothers. A Parents Room has been established on the Ground floor of Building 11 in the UniCentre Foyer, around the corner from the University Hall (next to the bottom of the stairs), with all facilities for women who are breastfeeding. Apart from this specific space, other areas are designated across campus with 'Breastfeeding mothers welcome' stickers. These areas include: Sal Paradise, Keira Buffet, Food Court, UniBar lounge area and KidsUni Childcare Centre.

Women are also encouraged to discuss their needs and use of suitable space within their work unit, with their Head of Unit as part of the return to work program.

Other topics of discussion may include limited evening lectures for breastfeeding mothers or the introduction of short lactation breaks for a temporary period. Breastfeeding an infant is not a permanent arrangement and the accommodations made should be recognised as short term and temporary.
