2008 Vice-Chancellor's Awards

The 2008 University of Wollongong Vice-Chancellor's Awards Function was held on Friday 27 June, formally recognising the outstanding contributions and service of staff members.
The awards were attended by the Chancellor Mr Michael Codd, AC, Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton, AO; Vice-Principal (Administration), Mr Chris Grange; Vice-Principal (Overseas Operations), Dr James Langridge; Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Academic and International) Professor Rob Castle; Acting Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) Professor Lee Astheimer and members of the UOW Council.
Deans, directors, colleagues, friends and family of the award recipients were also present to show their support and appreciation.
Award categories included 25 Years Service Awards, Outstanding Service for General Staff, Outstanding Contribution to Teaching and Learning (OCTAL) Awards (categories of Vice-Chancellor’s Award, Early Career Academic Award, Sessional Tutor/Demonstrator Award, General Staff Award and Faculty Awards), Research Excellence Awards (categories of Senior Researcher, Emerging Researcher, Research Partnership and Research Supervision), Excellence in Community Engagement Awards and the Marie Lewis Award.
This year's Awards Ceremony concluded with the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Gerard Sutton, AO being awarded Rotary International's highest honour. Mr Malcolm Heard, Wollongong Rotary President, surprised Professor Sutton with the prestigious Paul Harris Award for service to the community.
